RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course
Become a skilled skipper on coastal passages by day and night and enjoy an active holiday.
Description: This course is designed to give an experienced Day Skipper the confidence to undertake longer and more complex passages which may involve sailing at night or involve watch keeping systems. During the course you will skipper passages in a whole variety of situations and enjoy an intense and satisfying week. This course is an ideal bridge between Day Skipper and the full RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal course. It is an advanced skippering course for yachtsmen and women who have considerable knowledge of and experience in sailing and navigation.
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: 15 days at sea, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours. A knowledge of naviation to RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/ Offshore theory level.
Recommended pre-course knowledge: Knowledge of advanced offshore & coastal seamanship, navigation, pilotage and meteorology. Knowledge of all aspects of the RYA competent crew syllabus and RYA day skipper syllabus
Course contents: Coastal- and offshore skippering techniques. Undertaking demanding passages by day and by night. More advanced boat handling and pilotage for experienced Day Skippers.

Example schedule
Duration: 5 consecutive days.
Certificate: After successful completion we award you with a RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate.
After the course: You are able to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and by night. Reduced required sea time to enter an RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal Exam for holders of an RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Certificate.
